DC Power Supply
A DC power supply replaces the battery during testing and gives full control over voltage and current. It lets you observe current behavior in real time, making it one of the most important tools for fault diagnosis and power path analysis.
My DCPSU
DCPSU means DC Power Supply Unit. This is a common short form used in repair and electronics discussions.
The model I previously used is no longer recommended, as it is now outdated. Today, there are newer options with the same performance but more advanced features, better protection, and improved usability. For this reason, I suggest choosing a modern DC power supply with updated functions instead of older legacy models.
2026 Recommended DC Power Supply: MECHANIC DSP15D5+
This model keeps the same core specifications as my previous unit, with switchable 5V and 15V output, plus analog current gauges for 5A and 1000mA ranges.
What it adds is a USB charging output with real time current display, up to 2A, which is useful for quick device testing and charging verification.
It is available in both 220V and 110V versions, so you can choose according to your local power standard.
Another important upgrade is the digital current display. This allows you to monitor load current using both analog and digital readings, which improves accuracy and teaching clarity.
Multimeter
A multimeter is the most basic and essential diagnostic tool in electronics repair. It is used to measure voltage, resistance, continuity, and diode behavior, forming the foundation of all troubleshooting work.
In mobile phone repair, we normally do not use the current measurement function on a multimeter. Current testing is better handled by a DC power supply.
When selecting a multimeter, I strongly prefer models where continuity mode and diode mode are separated and switchable. Some multimeters combine these two functions into one mode, which is not ideal for professional repair training. This detail is important in my course and will be explained in depth during lessons.
I’m using a Fluke 15B Multimeter. Here’s a link to a similar model but an upgraded version, the 15B Max. Alternatively, you could get the 17B series if you need temperature measurement, which is quite useful for tuning our hot air soldering station.
If your budget is lower or you’d like a spare, I recommend the Sunshine DT-17N. It also includes temperature measurement and is the one all my students’ desks use.
Multimeter Probe Needle
You might as well buy a few sets of probes. The original box multimeter probe is too big for iPhone logic board repairs. Here’s the best probe I’m currently using.
